With more than 35 years of experience across these fields, Dr. James' varied career reflects a notable dedication to community impact. As an experienced educator, it is fitting that Dr. James' career would begin with an extensive academic background. He first earned a bachelor's degree in education from Troy University in 1988, before proceeding to complete a Master of Education in secondary education and teaching from Valdosta State University in 1993. He later obtained a doctorate in education from Truth Bible College in 1999.
From Education to Politics
Building from his academic foundations, Dr. James became a social studies teacher at Waycross High School and Ware County High School in 1989. Over the years, he transitioned to become a history teacher and assistant principal. Additionally, just two years after entering the world of education, Dr. James established himself as the bishop of Emmanuel's International Cathedral. He continues to hold each of these roles today.
By 2009, Dr. James combined his experience as an educator and bishop to become the chancellor of Emmanuel's Bible College. In 2010, he made the decision to serve as the pastor of Church of God in Claxton, Georgia, roles which he currently maintains. In 2018, Dr. James became a professor of sociology and job acquisition skills at Coastal Pines Technical College, where he also continues to work today.
In 2020, Dr. James entered the political landscape of the City of Waycross, becoming the city's elected mayor. As he persists in this role, he is responsible for meeting with various city personnel and making reports during the process. With his expertise in education, faith and leadership, he manages government responsibilities effectively and compassionately.
Career-Related and Civic Involvement
Beyond his professional career, Dr. James is also involved in various career-related and civic activities. Most notably, he has served as the chair of the region board of directors for the Department of Health since 2020, is the chair of the Environmental and Natural Resources Commission of the Georgia Municipal Association's Legislative Policy Council, and a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
Additionally, Dr. James is the author of several creative works, including "Trusting God to Supply Your Needs," published in 2003, "Leader, Can You Stand the Test," published in 2004, and "Just Because God Said It: A Journal of Prophetic Predictions and Pronouncements," published in 2010.
For his various contributions to the community, Dr. James has been honored with several awards and accolades. These include, but are not limited to, an appearance in the Marquis Lifetime Achievers Book, reception of the Marquis Who's Who Humanitarian Award and recognition as a Marquis Who's Who Top Professional.
Plans for the Future
Dr. James credits his ongoing success to a relentless dedication to setting his heart and mind on work. As he aims to move his community forward, he hopes to continue serving as a sociologist and is in his second term as mayor. He has developed a pilot program to teach young people how to prepare for the professional world, remaining true to his origins as an educator.
