Brimhall, CA — Li & Liao Optometry has announced that they are partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Kern County for two months this summer to help collect donations to support needy families in time for the 2024-2025 school year. Throughout June and July, all of their locations will be accepting school supplies and monetary donations — and Li & Liao have promised to match every single dollar donated.
“It is important to us that we give back to the community that has shown us so much affection and support,” said co-founder Dr. Dawson Li, O.D. “We wanted to partner with other local organizations that are making a real impact on our local neighborhoods, and the Boys and Girls Club of Kern County has proven to be the perfect fit.”
The school supplies being requested for the Stuff the Bus campaign include most types of stationery and office supplies. We appreciate critical supplies that may be more costly, including bookbags, graphing calculators, and lunch boxes. We are seeking additional supplies for both elementary and high school students, such as 3-ring binders, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, rulers, pencil cases, erasers, scissors, highlighters, glue sticks, pocket folders, index cards, and various other items.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve done this event,” said Dr. Li. “We’ve partnered with the Boys and Girls Club before, and we can’t recommend enough the services they provide this community. We’re excited to work together again because we have fine-tuned our approach, and we believe we can inspire more people than ever to support this worthy cause.”
The community has benefitted from the efforts of the Boys and Girls Club of Kern County for more than half a century. Started in 1966 as a club to get young men off the streets and preoccupied with positive, self-affirming activities, it developed into an expansive club that offers a wide range of programming, including after-school programs, summer camps, athletics, teen-specific programs, a source of summer jobs, tutoring support, and a great deal more. Hundreds of kids and teens have their lives positively affected by what their club offers every year.
“What we’ve learned doing this in past years is that most people have extra things lying around that they aren’t using that can be donated,” said Dr. Li. “Parents with grown kids usually have unopened school supplies from way back when," said Dr. Li. “When we collectively think of how to improve our community, everyone benefits.”
