One of the leading schools of Gurgaon, Meenakshi World School, has announced a day for parent-kid bonding on its sprawling campus. Recognised for bringing in a series of innovations leading to a vibrant, dynamic curriculum, Meenakshi World School will be holding Pitara on May 30th, 2013 starting 9 AM in the morning. A host of events, ranging from ‘Mom and Baby’ (for babies between 7 months and 1 year) and ‘Sunniest Smile Show’ (1-2 years) have been arranged for the younger ones, and for kids between 2-5 years there will be ‘Fancy Land’ and ‘Story Telling’ events.

“Parents are very important to the education philosophy of Meenakshi World School and Meenakshi Public School,” says Mr. Praveen Malhotra, Senior Co-ordinator of Meenakshi World School.“After all, the child spends the majority of the day at home. With shrinking spaces and pressures of double-income households, we realise that even when parents want to bond with their children, they might not have the necessary platform. Through platforms such as Pitara, Meenakshi schools encourage sharing experiences and learning from one another, among parents.”

Pitara 2013 is open to parents and students, irrespective of whether they are from the Meenakshi group of schools or not. Events like a Dance competition for mothers and a Quiz for fathers will also form part of the event. One of the events which is drawing a lot of interest ever since registration opened on the 25th of May, is the ‘Most Aware Parents’.

“Parents are role models for their children,” says Ms. Manju Chillar, one of the teachers at Meenakshi World School responsible for this workshop. “Many times, parents do not realise how much they have to offer to their children. The competition is only to provide a surroundings for the parents and children to recognise and appreciate mutual talents and understand each other better.”
So far, the number of parents who have registered for the workshop is 50. However, based on past experience, Meenakshi World School is catering for nearly double this strength, since most of the registrations are on-the-spot on the day of the event.
