Stock Update (NASDAQ:MSFT): Growing the cloud: How Microsoft, Inphi could help expand the entire industry

Cloud companies connect data centers – using large pipes and fiber optic cables – to improve reliability and reduce costs and latency, or the time it takes for data to travel from a server to a device. Priced at 19.51x this year’s forecasted earnings, MSFT shares are relatively inexpensive compared to the industry’s 20.60x forward p/e ratio. And for those looking to make a return holding the stock, the company pays shareholders $1.44 per share annually in dividends, yielding 2.69%. In a review of the consensus earnings estimate this quarter, 29 sell-side analysts are looking at $0.64 per share, which would be $0.03 better than the year-ago quarter and a $0.04 sequential decrease. What we find to be interesting is that the full-year EPS estimate of $2.76 is a $0.30 improvement when compared to the previous year’s annual results. The quarterly earnings estimate is predicated on a consensus revenue forecast of $22.10 Billion. If reported, that would be a 1.70% increase over the year-ago quarter.
