Volvo to supply Uber with 24,000 self driving cars

The markets extended its gains during the midday with the Dow climbing 78 points to 23,436. Nasdaq rose 6 points to 6,788.


Volvo will supply Uber with up to 24,000 autonomous XC90 SUVs as part of Uber's plans to shift their business model. Currently, drivers use their own vehicles to transport clients but the drivers keep to 80% of the fares. Uber will be able to keep 100% of each fare by using self-driving vehicles but the ride hailing service will have to maintain a fleet of cars.


An ongoing dispute between Dish Network and CBS may lead to a blackout of CBS programs beginning tonight at 10:59pm Pacific Time. Dish customers may lose access to popular NFL football coverage over the Thanksgiving holiday. CBS has been raising its retransmission rates while Dish has been struggling to retain its customers in amidst the cord cutting trend.


Macy's flagship store in New York will now require an appointment for children to visit with Santa Claus. Reservations can be made online on through a kiosk at Macy's up to five days in advance. The department store said that the new system will make the experience more pleasant for customers.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 4 to 3 on the NYSE and by more than 3 to 2 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 added 3 points to 2,582. Bitcoin surged $169 to $8,189.
