A study published in The American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology found that two-thirds of the mercury burden in the human body is caused by amalgam fillings. Another study on cadavers found that the mercury levels in critical organs of the body, such as the brain and kidneys, for individuals who had over 12 amalgam fillings were 10 times higher than those who had a maximum of 3 fillings.
