DESIGNATHON invites Chicago design community to engage in an all-day hackathon-style event for a good cause

By: PRLog
Design Museum of Chicago and Eight Bit Studios have teamed up with non-profit organization Ferrer Foundation for a day-long "DESIGNATHON", giving local designers a chance to use their creative powers for good.
CHICAGO - Oct. 17, 2018 - PRLog -- Design Museum of Chicago, Eight Bit Studios and Ferrer Foundation announce an all-day design hackathon to cap off Chicago Design Week 2018. The "DESIGNATHON" will take place on Saturday, November 3rd from 8am to 8pm at the Design Museum of Chicago's Block 37 Location at 108 North State Street, 3rd floor, Chicago, IL 60602.

"Design betters society and designers are specially equipped with the tools and skills needed to imagine and enact change," says Tanner Woodford, founder and executive director, Design Museum of Chicago. "This hackathon within Chicago Design Week provides a place to experiment with new ideas in the interest of public good. We're thrilled to be a part of it!"

Participants from all disciplines will use their skills to help advance Ferrer Foundation and its mission across the digital landscape.

"One of our biggest challenges has been being able to consistently utilize our website and online footprint as a place to communicate and share stories of the youth in our program," says Meghan Olson, Founder, Ferrer Foundation. "We can't wait to engage the Chicago Design community in helping us solve this."

The all-day event will be held from 8am to 8pm and is free, although a donation is suggested to benefit Ferrer Foundation and encourage the commitment of participants to attend.

Proposed Schedule - 8am to 8pm (subject to change)
  • Introductions
  • Group formations
  • Designing and ideating
  • Breakout session
  • Lunch (provided)
  • Designing and ideating (continued)
  • Group presentations
For those unable to attend the full day who still want to show their support, a separately ticketed event was created for the group presentations, held from 6pm-8pm, featuring time for the groups to share their ideas and engage in conversation with other attendees.

"The Designathon is a collaborative celebration of designing for a good cause," says Alyssa Low, a Product Designer at Eight Bit Studios. "We encourage participants to explore and ideate all while designing for the larger cause – expanding Ferrer Foundation's message through a digital solution. We are excited to be part of Design Week and look forward to seeing all the creative solutions."
