Feel 24 percent better in ten minutes with Virtual Reality

By: PRLog
Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Stockholm University have started a clinical trial to test Calm Place - a Virtual Reality relaxation app created by Mimerse. Outside of the hospital setting, Calm Place is also now available for Oculus Go and Samsung GearVR.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Jan. 29, 2019 - PRLog -- Mindfulness apps have increased in popularity lately, but by moving the experience into a virtual world Mimerse have taken concept to a whole new level.
  • "Calm Place builds on the success of our app Happy Place that was primarily used for pain distraction. In the US, 80% of workers experience stress on the job, so we saw a great need to explore VR relaxation and create something that perhaps could mimick the health benefits of going out in nature. It is a portable room for relaxation. Calm Place has already been experienced by thousands of people, who on average estimate a 24 percent increase in wellbeing after 10 minutes of use - considered a large effect in this context," says Niclas Wijkström, CEO Mimerse.
Most people associate VR with intense roller coaster or horror experiences, but Mimerse has used the technology to create the opposite - a relaxing and therapeutic experience to promote mental well-being.
  • "We believe that VR will be the most important technology ever for the treatment of mental disorders. Thanks to huge investments from companies like Facebook, Google and Samsung, the technology is becoming more accessible. And as the user base grows, the treatment areas we cover will also increase," says Niclas Wijkström, CEO Mimerse.
The clinical trial in collaboration with Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Stockholm University's will investigate the stress and anxiety reduction effects of Calm Place on in-patients in the hospital's psychiatry ward. Calm Place is now available for Oculus Go and Samsung GearVR.
