In 2013, Franks founded the nonprofit Rogue Climate to empower the Southern Oregon communities most impacted by climate change. With an annual operating budget of more than $1,000,000, Rogue Climate organizes for clean energy, sustainable jobs, and a healthy environment.
Shaun Franks lives with his wife and two sons in Ashland, Oregon. He recently finished making his 1998 home net zero, meaning that it produces all the energy that it consumes in a year. Among other things, Franks installed a twenty-five panel solar array, ductless mini split for heating and cooling, heat pump water heater, and insulation far above code. He also utilizes solar electric driving with a Tesla Model 3.
