Experience Lab launches at University of Pennsylvania—a virtual work/study program to help recent college graduates launch their careers amidst the global pandemic.

Chicago-based Experience Lab and The University of Pennsylvania’s College of Liberal and Professional Studies (Penn LPS) have announced a new program called Experience Lab at Penn. This first of its kind, fully virtual 6-month program is designed to prepare recent college grads for the future of work at a fraction of the cost of a traditional post-college degree while gaining international business experience.
The program combines facilitator-led experiential learning sessions focused on Digital Marketing or Business Development paired with one-on-one career coaching, culminating in a 12-week virtual work placement with an early-stage company.
“For many students, the first job is the hardest to get. Our program offers a bridge from college to career, by teaching hard skills for trending jobs alongside placement into full-time work experiences,” said Matt Meltzer, Co-Director, Experience Lab at Penn. “And as a six-month, virtual program, Experience Lab at Penn creates an efficient on-ramp into the workforce without the time and expense of a typical graduate degree.”

All of this is part of making shifts to how higher education works. If we can continue to elevate the role of experience — making it a more credible, celebrated, and central part of how students learn — society’s young and fresh minds will have a better opportunity to focus on real challenges and great work at one of the most formative parts of their lives.
The program is planned to be offered three times a year, with a pilot cohort of over 30 participants already in progress. Applications for the $9,750 program have opened for spring, summer, and fall 2021 session, and can be completed at https://explab.sas.upenn.edu/
