For instance, if one team has 6 points and the opponent has 4, the first team will go into the next round with 2. If both teams score the same, they will advance to the next round with 0 points. Any team that reaches 21 points with a 2 (or more) point lead, wins the game and the team that wins two games wins the match.
While there are official rules set out for the game (ratified by the American Cornhole association), Backyard Games USA explains that rules for home games are quite flexible — and players are allowed to choose their own rules since the game is all about having fun. Some people play the 21 points win where a team needs to get exactly 21 points to win. If the points exceed 21, they are reduced to 11, and they attempt the 21 again.
