Leading Aviation Insurance Broker Details Airplane Renter’s Insurance Coverages

Top Aviation Insurance Broker Sounds the Alarm on the Legal Liability of Pilots Flying Aircraft They Don’t Own

Corona, CA Release January 25, 2021.

In the relatively small world of certified pilots, finding oneself operating an aircraft that the pilot does not own is a quite common occurrence. However, far too many pilots assume that they are protected through the owner’s policy and BWI Aviation Insurance owner Matt White warns them of the liabilities involved.

As of 2019, there were approximately 660,000 certified pilots in the United States of America Meanwhile, the general aviation fleet in America numbers just slightly over 200,00. That means on any given day, many pilots will be operating aircraft owned by third parties. Most pilots assume that when flying aircraft that they don’t own, the aircraft owner has a solid airplane renter’s insurance policy in place.

In his latest article to his audience, BWI Aviation Insurance owner Matt White sounded the alarm that this may not be the case. “Yes, it is true that the owner’s policy may cover a particular incident or a loss,” said White. However, he clarified that an owner’s policy is written specifically to cover the owner’s interests. “ Airplane renter insurance policies are designed to cover policyholders from the liability of operating and flying aircraft that they don’t own.

Aircraft renters insurance can start for as little as $72 dollars for the entire year and the premium liability coverage package is still under $500 for the entire year. “Aircraft Renters Insurance is extremely affordable, especially considering the coverage it can offer,” said White. Perhaps the most appealing feature of the insurance is that it will pay for all legal defense should an incident occur.

White encourages all pilots, especially new pilots, to speak to an aviation insurance specialist broker in the industry before taking to the skies in any aircraft not personally owned. He encourages pilots never to assume that the flight school or the fixed based operator has enough insurance coverage to cover serious situations. A quick conversation can be the difference between peace of mind and massive financial and legal liabilities.
