Local Man’s Truck Engulfed In Flames, But Cooler Remains Ice Cold

When returning to the wreckage of his truck after a serious fire, a local Alabama resident was shocked to find his cooler still somewhat intact with ice inside.

Cleveland, Alabama - July 28, 2023

A local man from Alabama narrowly avoided a fatal incident when his truck burst into flames on the way home from Louisiana. It was a terrifying experience, but he managed to escape unharmed and unscathed. The flames were put out and the truck was moved by local authorities to a safe place.

A day later, Don - the truck’s owner - returned to see his truck and survey the damages. It was a bleak site, with fire damage everywhere from the hot flames. A salvation job started, with Don and his friends trying to save as much as they could from the burnt wreckage. Most things had melted, but one item that was still partially intact was his Pelican Cooler. Despite the outside melting the top shut, they managed to cut it open to see what was inside. To their surprise, the cooler was still full of ice and beer.

They filmed this moment and uploaded it to YouTube where it became an instant viral hit. Thousands of people shared the video of Don and his friends enjoying a cold beer from the partially melted cooler. A terrifying situation quickly turned into an overnight sensation. When asked about what happened, Don commented that he never expected the contents of the cooler to remain cold, but the beer was exactly what he needed after the experience.

Extra thick walls keep Pelican Coolers colder for longer

This incident was met with surprise by the general public, with many people believing the video was fake. However, this miraculous turn of events was down to the build quality of Pelican Coolers. These coolers have been specifically designed to hold ice longer than any other cooler on the market. In fact, some of the larger coolers are able to hold ice for more than 10 days under “normal conditions”.

When exposed to extreme heat, the contents of these coolers are protected by extra thick walls for improved insulation. Pelican Coolers craft the toughest mobile cold storage unit possible, utilizing both injection molded and rotomolded designs. In this particular case, the walls are two inches or more thick, using polyurethane insulation to keep the heat out.

This formed a protective barrier around the contents, which is why the fire only damaged the outer portion of the cooler. Thanks to the wonderful speed of the local fire department, the flames were put out before they had a chance to penetrate deeper. With the inner insulative material undamaged, the ice could remain nice and cold for hours after the incident.

The viral video showing the partially melted cooler full of cold ice is a testament to the engineering prowess of these products. For more information on Pelican Coolers, visit their website here: https://elitecooler.com/.
