NEWS RELEASE
United Taconite Resumes Operations
Cleveland, OH—October 31, 2006—Cleveland-Cliffs Inc today announced that limited crushing and concentrating operations have resumed at its United Taconite Plant in Forbes, Minn. Crushing and concentrating operations had been idled since an electrical explosion that occurred on October 12, 2006. Mining operations continued throughout this period. "The plant is not yet running at full operational capacity," said Duke Vetor, vice president-operations, North American iron ore, "the plant is running approximately one-third of its pelletizing capacity but we are fully committed to return to normal production levels."
