State of Kentucky Presents Danimer Scientific With Honorary Proclamation on National Biobased Products Day

State and local dignitaries visit bioplastics manufacturer’s Winchester facility to recognize its pioneering work in the biobased products industry

Danimer Scientific, Inc. (NYSE: DNMR) (“Danimer” or the “Company”) announced that the State of Kentucky has issued a proclamation honoring the company for its “pioneering and innovative work in the biobased products industry” in celebration of National Biobased Products Day on March 8.

Katie Smith, deputy secretary and commissioner of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, visited Danimer’s Winchester production facility to present the proclamation. Also in attendance at the ceremony were JoEllen Reed, mayor of Winchester; Les Yates, Clark County judge-executive; Bruce Manley, campus director at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System; Brad Sowden, executive director of the Winchester-Clark County Industrial Authority; and Erika O’Brien, assistant director of the Winchester-Clark County Industrial Authority.

National Biobased Products Day, established in 2023 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is intended to raise awareness of biobased products, along with highlighting their benefits and contributions to the U.S. economy.

“We appreciate Gov. Andy Beshear and the State of Kentucky recognizing Danimer’s efforts to drive the movement toward the broader use of bioplastics,” said Kevin Welsh, plant manager at Danimer Scientific. “Our Winchester facility is instrumental to our plans to meet the growing demand for sustainably produced bioplastic products that break down completely in nature or through composting, rather than polluting our lands and waters.”

The guests also toured Danimer’s facility, learning more about the company’s products and capabilities.

"I enjoyed my visit to Danimer’s facility and found it extremely interesting to learn more about the innovations they’re making in the bioplastics industry,” Katie Smith said. “We’re proud to have Danimer here in the state of Kentucky making a meaningful contribution to the wider use of biobased products and providing good-paying jobs for our people.”

Danimer’s Winchester facility is the world’s first commercial production facility for Nodax®, a 100% biodegradable PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate) material that is FDA approved for food contact applications, making it an ideal replacement for single-use petrochemical plastic items like straws, utensils and food containers.

Among other places, Danimer’s PHA formulations can currently be found in all U.S. Starbucks stores, numerous Dunkin Donuts, all U.S. Costco food courts and all Sam's Club food courts. In addition, they’re on the shelves of Target, CVS and Walmart stores under various product names.
