Figma Brings Up New Designs with Gen-AI Features

Recently, the world’s fastest-growing design platform, Figma, has emerged with multiple interactive, innovative, and breath-taking AI-backed features to its platform, including complete UI redesign and introduction to GenAI tools. The platform is now advancing to empower designers to make innovative designs more efficiently while adding state-of-the-art features to their applications.

The new Figma design features a new toolbar, rounded corners, and hundreds of icons that will surely enhance the overall experience. However, the platform’s key objective is to focus more on people’s work while ensuring that the platform’s UI is easy to use, usable, and approachable to beginners. It’s the third time the platform has come up with a new design since the closure of the beta version, a commitment to empower people with the most innovative platform with maximum functionalities.

In a briefing, Figma Chief Product Officer (CPO) Yuhki Yamashita showed multiple examples of how designers can create a new restaurant design. After Yuhki typed the prompt, the platform automatically created a mock-up with a menu listing and other essential features. However, the mocked-up app looked very generic, yet the CPO could tweak the design in real time.

Figma new AI features and tools can help users carry out small tasks more effectively and robustly. For example, Figma users can now use artificial intelligence-powered asset search and auto-generated text boxes when designing instead of vague “Lorem ipsum” placeholder text fields.

Specifically, all the newly introduced Figma AI features aim to allow users to test and try their ideas more efficiently while helping experts who are more experienced in using the platform iterate more promptly. Figma’s CPO says, “We’re using AI to lower the floor and raise the ceiling.”

In its latest blog post, the platform also described the AI training approach in detail. “All of the generative features we’re launching today are powered by third-party, out-of-the-box AI models and were not trained on private Figma files or customer data,” writes Kris Rasmussen, Figma’s CTO. We fine-tuned visual and asset search with images of user interfaces from public, free Community files.”

Rasmussen adds that Figma trains its models to learn patterns and “Figma-specific concepts and tools” but not from users’ content. Figma is also going to let Figma admins control whether Figma can train on “customer content,” which includes “file content created in or uploaded to Figma by a user, such as layer names and properties, text and images, comments, and annotations,” according to Rasmussen.

Figma is also developing more practical tools, including in-app slide features that allow users to create presentations. According to the platform, its users tend to hack Figma to make presentations; however, this update will officially aid them in designing interactive presentations just like Google’s version of slides. Lastly, Figma has also added a prototyping feature, which will help users market their products or designs more effectively.
