BRAG to Host Annual Scholarship & Awards Benefit Honoring Industry Leaders in Fashion and Retail on October 10, 2024

For more than 50 years, BRAG has provided opportunities, guidance, and support to college students and working professionals of color.

NEW YORK - Oct. 8, 2024 - PRLog -- New York, NY – BRAG (Black Retail Action Group), a non-profit organization committed to advancing diversity in retail-related industries, will host its highly anticipated Scholarship & Awards Benefit  in New York City. This will be the first time BRAG is hosting its marquee event since 2020, following a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, which will be held at Fashion Institute of Technology FIT begins at 6:30 PM,  and will honor influential figures in fashion and retail while awarding scholarships to the next generation of industry leaders.

Since its founding in 1970, BRAG has provided professional development, mentorship, and job opportunities to thousands of alumni through internships, workshops, panel discussions, and networking events. The annual Scholarship & Awards Benefit has become the organization's marquee event that brings together top executives and influencers in fashion, art, entertainment, business, and philanthropy.

To date, BRAG has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to deserving students who have demonstrated academic excellence and a need for financial support. The 2024 event will continue this legacy, celebrating the achievements of extraordinary individuals who are shaping the future of fashion and retail while supporting the diverse talent BRAG is dedicated to cultivating.

This year's honorees include:

  • Jamillah Davis Hernandez Vice President/DMM of Men's Footwear and Accessories, Saks, recipient of the Business Achievement Award.
  • Dr. Joyce F. Brown, President of the Fashion Institute of Technology, honored with the Legacy Award for her outstanding contributions to education and the fashion industry. Dr. Brown's groundbreaking career includes being the first woman and the first Black president of FIT.  Dr. Brown first received a BRAG award in 1998, and as she prepares to leave the college, BRAG is recognizing her transformative leadership of FIT ranked as one of the top three universities for the creative industries in the world.
  • The luxury fashion house Loewe, which will be presented with the Fashion Visionary Award, accepted by Matthew Heller, President, Loewe Americas

These honorees join a distinguished group of past recipients, including fashion designers Tracy Reese and Zac Posen, British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edward Enniful, former Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren, and basketball legend and entrepreneur Earvin "Magic" Johnson.

As BRAG President Nicole Cokley Dunlap noted: "This year's honorees exemplify the spirit of innovation, leadership, and inclusivity that BRAG stands for. Their work has transformed the retail and fashion landscape and also aligns with our mission to prepare and educate students, professionals, and entrepreneurs of color for executive leadership roles. We are thrilled to recognize their outstanding contributions while continuing our commitment to fostering the next generation of talent."

In addition to honoring these remarkable leaders, BRAG will award scholarships to college students who demonstrate academic promise, leadership potential, and an interest in pursuing careers in fashion and retail.
