PubMatic’s gross margin is worse than the software industry average, giving it less room than its competitors to hire new talent that can expand its products and services. Over the next 12 months, sell-side analysts expect PubMatic’s revenue to rise by 5.8%, a deceleration versus its 11.8% annualized growth for the past three years. This projection doesn't excite us and implies its products and services will face some demand challenges.

Final Judgment

PubMatic isn’t a terrible business, but it isn’t one of our picks. Following the recent decline, the stock trades at 2.6× forward price-to-sales (or $16.00 per share). This valuation is reasonable, but the company’s shakier fundamentals present too much downside risk. We're pretty confident there are superior stocks to buy right now.
