NEW YORK - May 2, 2016 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, N.Y. - When dual passions bring together the art and science of fashion meets social advocacy, the results create an opportunity for reaching new audiences and forging partnerships that may have once been seen as unlikely alliances. With her dual passions of using fashion as a platform to raise awareness and funding for HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and treatment, Verneda Adele White, Founder and Creative Director of the premium, charity-driven apparel brand Human Intonation (www.humanintonation.com), was selected during Statewide Regional discussions to lead the Brooklyn Ending the Epidemic (ETE) Regional Steering Committee as a Co-Chair in the effort to end the AIDS epidemic in Brooklyn, New York.

In June 2014, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo detailed a three-point plan to move New York State closer to the end of the AIDS epidemic. The goal of the three-point plan is to reduce the number of new HIV infections to just 750 (from an estimated 3,000) by 2020 and achieve the first ever decrease in HIV prevalence in New York State. The Brooklyn Ending the Epidemic (ETE) Regional Steering Committee was established at the culmination of 13 regional discussions that were held across New York State between August and the fall of 2015 to provide an opportunity to identify and implement community driven strategies and partnerships to address the Governor's three-point plan as presented in the 2015 New York State Blueprint to end the epidemic.

In what has become a significant nod in recognizing the next generation of leaders in the effort to end HIV/AIDS, Ms. White will join Chairs and Co-Chairs in regions across New York State stretching from Brooklyn to Buffalo, as the Regional Steering Committees coordinate with the AIDS Institute to provide a forum for participation and collaboration among regional partners, identify gaps, and develop a local action plan. The New York State Department of Health, AIDS Institute has lead responsibility for coordinating state programs, services and activities relating to HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and hepatitis C. Ms. White is excited to lead the effort in Brooklyn along with fellow Co-Chair David W. Matthews, Program Manager of Bridging Access to Care.

Ms. White joins the Brooklyn Ending the Epidemic (ETE) Regional Steering Committee in tandem with her role as Co-Chair of Brooklyn Knows, the HIV testing initiative of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
