The Dan Calugar Finance Scholarship committee is pleased to announce that they will be accepting applications until August 15, 2021. Individuals interested in or who are pursuing a career in finance or investment analysis are highly encouraged to apply for the $10,000 scholarship.

“We have increased the award to $10,000 because of the amazing opportunity and empowerment we believe this scholarship can provide for students interested in developing trading algorithms for systematic trading of stocks, bonds, options, and (or) futures,” said Dan Calugar.

Daniel Calugar is a data-driven investor and developed his skill set during his academic and professional years in computer science, business, and law. His passion for what he does has driven him to help others excel in the finance field. Calugar developed his love for investing through recurrent interaction with other professionals in the investment industry who serviced his legal clients’ investment needs.

For those interested in applying for the Dan Calugar Finance Scholarship, the eligibility requirements must be met along with a 2,000-word essay submission. Applicants must be either a post-graduate student or a junior or senior for the Fall term of 2021. Individuals who apply must also be a finance major or pursuing a degree program like computer science or mathematics that runs parallel to a career in investment analysis or finance. Other eligibility requirements include providing proof for a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and being an in-state student attending college.

Applicants’ essays must include details about the applicant’s experience with developing and trading algorithms in relation to finance. Applicants who have publications on algorithmic trading are strongly urged to include a description of the work in the essay. Applicants are also asked to explain the “edge” that their most successful algorithmic strategy exploits and why such an edge should be persistent.

Due to the high volume of applications from previous awards, applicants’ essays are strictly limited to 2,000 words. Fortunately, once a winner is selected, scholarship committee members will grant an opportunity for the awardee to add more information about one’s experience with algorithmic trading.

When the scholarship winner is announced, additional information might be required from the selected individual to present to the Dan Calugar Finance Scholarship committee, including but not limited to any documentation supporting the details relayed by the candidate to prove the information as factual.

The winner of the scholarship will be notified via email. Once the email is sent, the scholarship awardee will have two weeks to accept the award, or he or she will be disqualified, and another individual will be awarded the scholarship.
